Is a Public Adjuster Worth It After Hurricane Isaias
You filed your claim. Or you are about to file it. Now you wonder if hiring your own adjuster is worth the fee. Here is how to decide with real numbers from this storm.
The short answer
Yes, if your loss is large, disputed, or already closed without payment. No, if your damage is small, clear, and already paid in full. A free review tells you which case you are in before you sign anything.
What the state numbers say
Florida regulators counted nearly 55,000 Isaias claims as of October 20. Nearly 8,500 of those claims already closed without a payment. Just over 3,500 closed with a payment. About 43,000 claims are still open. Seven of every ten closed claims closed unpaid.
That pattern is not new. Florida’s own OPPAGA study found policyholders who used a public adjuster received payments 747 percent higher than those who did not on hurricane claims. That is the state’s number, not ours.
What you pay
For residential claims, Florida caps the fee at 10 percent during the first year after a state of emergency declaration. And 10 percent of nothing is nothing. Without representation, many homeowners walk away with far less or nothing at all. The fee terms sit in a written contract before you sign.
When a public adjuster earns the fee
You benefit most when the carrier’s first scope misses damage. Carriers miss roof systems, matching, code upgrades, and hidden water. They blame wind damage on flood. They blame storm damage on wear and tear. They close files fast and call that an answer.
You also benefit when your claim was denied, delayed, or paid short. You can reopen a short payment or a closed unpaid claim. You can add damage found during repairs. Your deadlines are fixed. Report a new claim by October 9, 2027. Reopen or supplement by April 9, 2028. A lawsuit on the claim runs to October 9, 2031.
When you may not need one
Your damage is minor and fully documented. Your carrier paid the full repair cost. Your deductible covers the whole loss. In that case a free review still costs you nothing, and we will tell you plainly if hiring us adds no value.
What we do for you
We inspect your whole property, not just the damage you can see from the ground. We build a line by line scope of the full repair. We read your policy and check the deductible, the exclusions, and the deadlines. We handle the calls and the negotiation with the carrier. You focus on your home. We focus on your claim.
Your next step
Bring us your denial letter, your estimate, or your carrier estimate. We compare it against the full scope and show you what is missing. The review is free. The inspection is free. You decide with facts, not pressure.
